Man dies after accident on Clare farm

A man in his 50s has died following an accident on a farm in Co Clare yesterday evening.

A man in his 50s has died following an accident on a farm in Co Clare yesterday evening.

The accident happened just after 5pm in a field near the village of Ruan, a short distance from Ennis.

The farmer, a married father-of-two, is understood to have died after being pinned against a fence by a tractor which rolled forward accidentally.

He was feeding cattle at the time.

Efforts to revive the man failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Health and Safety Authority is due to visit the scene this morning.
