Flooding in the midlands and east of the country is causing severe travel disruption this morning, with delays on bus and rail services in the Dublin area.

Bus Eireann said all its services into Dublin are running one to two hours late and will continue to do so for the rest of the day.

The worst affected routes are those using the Blanchardstown bypass, with services from Cavan, Kells and Navan currently being diverted through the shopping centre.

Services out of the Dublin area also experiencing delays, with knock-on effects throughout the entire Expressway network.

Local services in other areas are also affected by flooding and traffic diversions.

Iarnrod Eireann said its services are not as badly affected as the roads, but flooding has forced the suspension of services on the Howth Junction to Malahide section of the DART line, which is expected to remain closed all morning.

The closure isn't affecting Drogheda suburban services.

There is also flooding on the Sligo line between Enfield and Maynooth and on the Rosslare line between Gorey and Enniscorthy, necessitating road transfers and subsequent delays in both areas.

The Maynooth to Clonsilla service is operating with delay due to moderate flooding.
