The new Children's Hospital of Ireland will open in five years time.

Located on Eccles Street in Dublin, the €750m project will open at the end of 2014.

The hospital will have around 400 beds and construction work will begin next year.

The Taoiseach Brian Cowen said the existing children’s hospitals have given great service, but the time is now right for a modern facility.
