Peter Hanna toured the neat little Co Tyrone course at Fintona in five-under-par 67 to win the club’s annual pro-am tournament with three shots to spare over the chasing pack.
Fortwilliam Club professional Hanna has a bogey free round as he pencilled in five birdies to stride away with the honours. He birdied the par four third hole and then clipped a shot off regulation at the long seventh to turn two-under.
He reduced long holes 14 and 15 to four shots each and polished off an excellent round with birdie three at the last.
For the fourth consecutive day, Damian Mooney was in the shake-up with joint second place. Laganview pro Mooney shared top spot at Enniscorthy and at Sutton and was joint second also at The Curragh.
At Fintona he was joined in second place by the host club’s touring pro Paul Leonard who plays on the European Seniors’ Tour and last year’s Fintona winner Leslie Walker.
The team event turned into a home tussle between the amateur players with the first place decided on the last three holes. Knockbracken professional Geoff Loughrey and Fintona members Hugh Corey (11), Claude Maguire (14) and Anthony Maguire (15) took the honours from pro Gordon Smyth (Headfort), John Corey (13), David Abraham (12) and Willie Ward (20).
