Mullins ready for Ebor test

Willlie Mullins sends Galway Hurdle runner-up Deutschland and consistent mare Sesenta to face the starter in in the totesport Ebor at York tomorrow and the Co Carlow maestro is happy with the preparations undertaken by both.

“I’ve been very happy with Deutschland and he came out of Galway in good form. I would have preferred it for him if the rain had come, but he has won on fast ground so we’ll have to play it by ear,” said the trainer.

“Both of my horses look to have a bad draw but I’m not sure what effect it has in a race like this.

“Sesenta has been a tremendous mare to have and she and Deutchsland have both run at most of the major Festivals during the winter.

“I think the weight just did her in Galway and we’re claiming off her tomorrow which gives her a racing weight as she’s not the biggest filly in the world.

“Gary Carroll rides her and he is a very good jockey so we’re pleased to have him.

“It’s an open race and if you’re not in you can’t win, so we’ll just have to see what happens.”

Mullins' mounts face Alan King's Manyriverstocross, who arrives at the Knavesmire in fine form having swooped fast and late to win a competitive event at Glorious Goodwood last month.

King, more famous for his exploits in the National Hunt sphere, has been delighted with the four-year-old’s recent progress and is delighted to have secured the services of former champion jockey Jamie Spencer.

“Everything has been fine since Goodwood, he’s had no problems and I’m very happy with him,” said King.

“We were very pleased with him at Goodwood as he deserved to win one and if he hadn’t got that penalty he wouldn’t have got in this race anyway, so it was quite an important race to win.

“As long as he got in we were always coming here. Hopefully the ground won’t be too quick and I think he’ll be OK on it.

“I’m more concerned about the draw really but I’d like to think he goes there with a decent chance.

“Jamie knows him well so I’m delighted to have him on board.”

Ajaan's participation in a third massive betting race this season is uncertain at the moment.

Henry Cecil has campaigned the five-year-old sparingly, finishing second in the Chester Cup and seventh in the Northumberland Plate on his only starts.

But Alan Cooper, racing manager for owners the Niarchos Family, said: “We don’t know if he is going to run yet – he needs some ease in the ground and we will have to see how the track rides on the first day.

“There wasn’t enough pace at Newcastle and we do think this race would suit him.”

Willie Musson fields Magicalmysterytour, who was once trained by Aidan O’Brien.

He was easily beaten by leading fancy Warringah at Windsor in June but after a big turnaround in the weights, he subsequently put in a sterling effort over the Ebor course and distance to be a nostril behind the same rival in the John Smith’s Extra Smooth Silver Cup.

Musson said: “His draw (17) is not ideal and he wouldn’t mind a bit more ease in the ground, but plenty of others would too.

“He ran a super race last time and if he puts up a similar performance, he shouldn’t be far behind Warringah.

“Richard Hughes doesn’t ride that often for me but I like to use him when he is available and I’m sure he’ll work it out.”

Munsef was declared a non-runner early on Tuesday morning which has allowed first reserve Precision Break to take his place in the line up.
