Tottenham wing-back Simon Davies has had his red card against Arsenal downgraded after referee Mike Riley agreed to take another look at his controversial dismissal.
But the Welsh international will still have to serve a suspension as the single yellow card he has now received was his fifth caution of the season.
Davies was booked for a tackle on Arsenal’s England defender Ashley Cole and received a second yellow card minutes later for a strong challenge on Patrick Vieira, which had the midfielder back in the dressing room after only 26 minutes of the game which Spurs lost 3-0.
But after an appeal from Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle, Riley has agreed to wipe out the first yellow card.
It is not all good news for Davies as the booking means he has clocked up an automatic one-match suspension and he will miss his team’s trip to Birmingham on November 30.
