St Patrick’s Day celebrations pass off calmly

The St Patrick's Day celebrations passed off relatively quietly this year.

Gardaí described the trouble in Dublin as nothing out of the ordinary, while around 40 arrests were made in Cork and 20 in Waterford, all drink-related.

Elsewhere, in the north-east the ambulance service was called to a total of 80 incidents.

The most serious incidents were in Co Louth with four people injured in two separate stabbings in Dundalk this morning.

Three people had to be treated in hospital after one incident in the Greenacres area about 4am.

Earlier, a man was stabbed in what is believed was a domestic dispute at a house in Muirhevnamore.

His condition is described as stable.
