Leeds United have told Aston Villa to increase their offer for Paul Robinson if they are to have any chance of signing the England goalkeeper.
Villa, managed by former Leeds boss David O’Leary, have made a bid for 23-year-old Robinson but Leeds have rejected it.
Leeds chairman Professor John McKenzie told Leedsunited.com: “We want to keep Paul but that depends on him and it may be that Aston Villa will put in a higher offer or someone else will.
“Arsenal have also expressed an interest but we are happy for him to stay because he is a very good goalkeeper.”
Robinson is looking to have his contract re-negotiated at Leeds, but having only agreed a new improved long-term contract at the club last year, Leeds are not in a rush to agree a new deal with him on improved terms.
Leeds boss Peter Reid also knows that he has Nigel Martyn eager for first team football after losing his place to Robinson last season.
“Peter Reid’s position has always been that his players have to want to play for Leeds and, as long as he expresses that interest, then hopefully he’ll stay with us. Like all players, it’s up to him to decide on that,” added McKenzie.
“He’s a great goalkeeper and we want to keep him, but we are fortunate in the position that we have two great international keepers on the books.”
