Consumer confidence in Ireland has hit a 13-year low, according to the latest survey from KBC Ireland and the ESRI.

The two organisations say people are becoming increasingly pessimistic about the outlook for the economy.

Eight-five per cent of respondents to the latest consumer sentiment survey said they expected the economy to deteriorate further over the next year, while only 6% expect an improvement.

KBC Bank says the overall gloom reflects the torrent of bad economic news in recent days, including major job losses and the possibility of higher taxes.
