An alternative Crufts is being held on the internet after the main event was postponed because of the foot-and-mouth crisis.

More than 500 breeders have entered their dogs' pictures in this weekend's Cyber Show 2001.

The dogs will be judged by former Blue Peter presenter Peter Purves. The real Crufts show will take place at the end of May.

Cyber dog show organiser Lynn Parker said: "We decided to do it when Crufts was postponed because we thought there would be a lot of sad people and that this would be a lot of fun. I have been really surpirsed how it has taken off."

Dog owners from all over the world are invited to send their pets' photos. The site says: "No pet passports required for international entries."

Winners will get tickets to see Best In The Show, a film about competition dogs.

The categories are terrier, hound, toy, utility, gundogs, working, pastoral and best in show.
