A 24-year-old man was today charged with the murder of his father, Thomas Brady, on Dublin’s south side last week.
Edward Brady, of Glenshane Grove, Tallaght in Dublin, appeared before Kilmainham District Court on the charge.
Mr Brady, 49, a father of six, was found with head injuries in his flat at Dolphin House in the Rialto area on the evening of January 19.
He was brought to St James’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Inspector Gabriel O’Gara of Kilmainham garda station said the accused remained silent when he was charged.
The court heard he was arrested at 7.25am on Thursday and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at 8.15am.
He was charged with murder at 7.45pm.
Judge Clare Leonard asked Mr Brady was he working, he replied he was.
The court heard he was earning only €255 a week and an application for legal aid was lodged.
Mr Brady was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison until next Wednesday.
He will appear before the court again on February 2 at 10.30am.
