A senior Government Minister has dismissed claims that Fianna Fáil is in trouble after one of the party's TDs withdrew his support for the Government.

Donegal North East TD Jim McDaid said he feels "superfluous" to the party and won't watch Fianna Fáil being decimated.

It is understood the row centres on a dispute with Deputy McDaid and his constituency colleague, Fianna Fáil's Niall Blaney.

But the Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe has said the decision "doesn't spell bad news for the party".
