The regionalisation of Co Louth as a foot-and-mouth zone is to end today, 30 days after the outbreak was detected on a farm in Proleek.

The county was classed as a region in order to safeguard food exports from the rest of the country and curb the spread of the disease.

The Louth case remains the only confirmed one in the Republic.

Minister for Agriculture Joe Walsh said while some restrictions would be relaxed, the recent outbreaks in the North have shown that we are not yet out of danger.

He urged everyone to remain vigilant and not to become complacent.

Restrictions around the 10km exclusion zone at Proleek will remain in place until April 27.
