Glenn Roeder claims he will play Paolo Di Canio against Leicester if a transfer deal with Manchester United is still not agreed.

Glenn Roeder claims he will play Paolo Di Canio against Leicester if a transfer deal with Manchester United is still not agreed.

United have not yet met West Ham's valuation for the Italian after the Hammers rejected the champions' first bid.

Roeder insisted Di Canio had not been affected by the on-going transfer talk.

"Paolo has been flying in training," said the West Ham boss.

"He loves his training and once he gets on that training ground he is the ultimate professional.

"He has not been affected by everything that is going on and I'd have no hesitation in picking him to play on Saturday."

Michael Carrick is likely to miss the game at Upton Park with a knee injury.

Dave Bassett claims his Leicester side are like the lion in the Wizard of Oz because they are looking for some heart.

Leicester are rock bottom of the Premiership, six points from safety.

Bassett said: "To me, this team is like the lion in the Wizard of Oz - it's looking for a heart and can't find one.

"It's up to us to show everyone that this club still has a fire in its belly, a desire to be successful and a willingness to overcome the odds."

New signing Jacob Laursen from FC Copenhagen is poised to make his debut, but skipper Matt Elliott and Muzzy Izzet are suspended.
