Ballinger Ridge, the horse at the centre of the storm surrounding champion jockey Kieren Fallon, got off the mark at the 20th attempt at Lingfield Park today.
His victory came in the lowly Cashbacks @ Bet Direct Interactive Median Auction Maiden Stakes.
The Andrew Balding-trained gelding had been well clear at halfway at the same track last Tuesday, only to be caught on the line after Fallon eased his mount inside the final furlong.
Fallon was yesterday given a 21-day ban by the Jockey Club and regular rider Martin Dwyer was back in the saddle today.
The horse was once again soon in front, and although he tired in the straight he had enough left to hold on quite comfortably in what was a very poor event, as befits a race with Class H status on the all-weather.
Ballinger Ridge was sent off 4-5 favourite in the 10-furlong contest and had three-and-a-half lengths to spare over long-time pursuer Blue Savanna at the line.
It was a further six lengths back to Mr Fleming.
