A leading member of a notorious Limerick crime gang has been arrrested by gardaí in Limerick in connection with a recent feud-related shooting in the city.

An 18-year-old youth suffered pellet wounds to the back after he was shot at while driving through the city at 11.30pm on August 27 last.

The teenage victim - who is related through marriage to murdered Limerick crime boss Kieran Keane - was driving in the Clare Street area of the city when a gunman fired two shots at him.

It is understood the gunman was travelling in another car which continued to pursue the injured party until he sought refuge in the St Mary's Park area of the city. The shooting followed a row earlier that night in the Garryowen area between youths connected to two gangs locked in a violent feud.

Gardaí arrested three men shortly after the shooting but they were later released without charge.

Earlier today, another suspect for the shooting was arrested by gardaí in Limerick.

The youth who is believed to be a member of the McCarthy Dundon gang is being detained for questioning under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. He is being quizzed about the shooting and can be held for up to 72 hours.
