The Central Statistics Office is expected to reveal a rise in the number of people on the live register later today.

The figures are expected to show that 900 people joined the register in October following a spate of business closures and job losses in recent months.

Yesterday, 1,200 lay-offs were announced in three different companies and the IDA has warned that further job losses can be expected in foreign multinational companies based in Ireland.
