Hendry position unclear at Blackpool

Colin Hendry’s managerial tenure at Blackpool looks to be over after the Seasiders handed first-team responsibilities to midfielder Simon Grayson.

Colin Hendry’s managerial tenure at Blackpool looks to be over after the Seasiders handed first-team responsibilities to midfielder Simon Grayson.

The struggling League One club have so far refused to comment on Hendry’s situation, other than to announce: “Following further discussions with Colin Hendry on Thursday, Simon Grayson has taken temporary charge of first-team matters.

“Messrs Colin Hendry and (assistant) Ian Miller, in line with their request, are scheduled to attend a further meeting at the end of next week to discuss the club’s position.”

The future of Bournemouth looks to be secure following the decision of influential supporters’ group Community Mutual to back the sale of their Dean Court stadium.

A London-based property company is proposing to buy the ground for £3.5m (€5.2m) and lease it back to the club, with the money raised used to service reported debts of nearly £7m (€10.4m).

Rushden & Diamonds have signed goalkeeper John Ruddy on a one-month loan deal from Barclays Premiership side Everton.

The 19-year-old, who moved to Goodison Park from Cambridge United for £250,000 (€372,000) at the end of last season, has recently completed a loan spell at League One side Walsall.

Diamonds boss Barry Hunter told the club’s official website, www.thediamondsfc.co.uk: “He has come from a higher league, but he is also experienced at playing in League Two.”

Crystal Palace midfielder Sam Togwell has joined Port Vale on a short-term loan deal until January 2.

Burnley’s youth team striker Marc Pugh has joined Conference outfit Kidderminster on a month’s loan after scoring 15 goals in 11 matches for the Clarets’ youth team this term.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi has confirmed he will sign Tony Grant in January.

The 30-year-old was set to join the Alex before falling foul of transfer regulations which prevented him from signing as he was on a non-contract deal with Bristol City before the August deadline.

The former Everton and Manchester City man, who was released by Burnley in the summer, continued to train with Gradi’s squad until he broke an ankle playing for the reserves.

“Tony got injured playing for our ’reserves’ so of course we take responsibly for that,” Gradi said.

“We have a duty to the player and I’ve already told him that we will sign him in January.”

Paul Gascoigne is the latest Rangers legend to agree to play in the Ted McMinn benefit match at Derby.

The game, between a Rams All Star 11 and players from the Rangers sides which won nine Scottish championships in a row, will be played at Pride Park on May Day.

Leeds are exploring the possibility of a long-term partnership with French club Rodez Aveyron.

Chairman Ken Bates joined Kevin Blackwell’s squad in south-west France this week – where United beat Rodez 1-0 in a goodwill friendly – to discuss the merits of a link-up that would help develop young talent on both sides of the channel.

The move could see Leeds, given a civic reception in Rodez at the end of their mini-break, take promising French youngsters on loan while sending their young talent to France to help in their development.

Rodez, in the French second division, are headed by ambitious chairman Joel Pillon who wants to lead the club out of the shadows of neighbouring Toulouse and southern-based big guns Marseille.

Oxford have completed the loan signing of Oldham midfielder Adam Griffin following a successful trial at the club.

The 21-year-old, who boss Brian Talbot knows well from his time at Boundary Park, has not featured in the Latics first team this season and will spend one month with the Us.

Griffin told the club’s official website, www.oufc.co.uk: “Hopefully I will enjoy my time at Oxford. If I do well and Brian wants to sign me, then anything can happen.”

MK Dons have re-signed Sheffield United midfielder Stephen Quinn on a two-month loan deal.

The 19-year-old spent a successful one-month stint at the National Hockey Stdium earlier this season before Blades boss Neil Warnock took him back to Bramall Lane to play him in the Carling Cup.

Notts County have responded to speculation regarding a potential takeover by confirming an approach to buy shares in the club has been made.

But the Magpies board revealed the offer was rejected as it was not in the long-term interests of the Meadow Lane club.

An official statement released by the board said: “An offer has been made and rejected for the shareholding of one of its directors.”

Barnsley striker Barry Conlon could be forced to undergo surgery that would keep him out of action for a month.

The 27-year-old is currently in the middle of a three-month loan spell at Rotherham and has scored one goal in four appearances for the Millers.

But a scan has revealed the former Darlington forward has damaged his cartilage and he will return to Oakwell to be assessed by the Tykes’ medical staff before a decision is made on whether he requires an operation.
