Cork win, but fail to make play-offs

Cork 1-10 Fermanagh 0-8

Cork won the battle, but ultimately lost the war in their bid to reach the NFL semi-finals at Páirc Uí Rinn tonight.

The Rebels needed to win by a cricket score to keep their slim hopes of snatching the second play-off spot from Tyrone, but this five-point win means that Kerry will have to beat the All-Ireland champions by 26 points in Omagh tomorrow.

Cork led at half-time by 1-5 to 0-5 with their goal coming in the 11th minute from Fionnán Murray.

Stephen Maguire kept Fermanagh in contention, kicking all of their first-half scores, all but one coming from frees.

Cork always looked comfortable in the second half and a brace of points each from Alan O’Regan and Alan Cronin saw them ease to victory.
