Gardaí probe Limerick blaze

Gardai are continuing to investigate a blaze at the home of members of a family involved in a violent feud in Limerick.

The house is believed to have been lived in recently by a sister-in-law of the Ryan brothers.

The fire broke out as armed officers patrolled flashpoints in the city amid fears of retaliatory violence. The hallway and the first floor of the house were damaged during the blaze.

The incident is being described as a "house fire involving petrol".

Last week brothers Eddie and Kieran Ryan, who had been reported abducted at gunpoint, returned home after being missing for almost a week. Just hours before their return, a member of the rival Keane family was shot dead, and his nephew stabbed several times.

Officers said nobody was in the house when the fire started at about 7pm yesterday, causing minor damage to the stairs and hallway.
