Motorola has announced a three-contract deal with China Unicom worth £98m.
The three contracts are designed to help the roll-out of GSM services for China's second largest telecoms operator.
Motorola will install networks in three of China's major provinces, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Xinjiang.
The expansion projects, scheduled for completion by October, 2001, will increase capacity in the provinces by 2.68 million subscribers.
The coastal provinces are two of China's most heavily populated and economically advanced areas and represent the country's major mobile telecom markets.
Motorola and China Unicom began their business relationship in 1994.
Since 1995, Motorola has been the largest mobile wireless system supplier to China Unicom.
Ruey Bin Kao, Motorola vice-president and general manager of the China Telecom Carrier Solutions Group, says: "Our ongoing relationship with China Unicom has provided a solid platform for the success of their network and enables Motorola to bring the best products and services to China."
