Record Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen has been given the all-clear to compete in the 75th running of the event this weekend.
The Dane, who has won the famous race seven times, sustained severe whiplash injuries following a crash in the season-opening DTM race at Hockenheim on April 22.
Since then Kristensen has undergone an intensive rehabilitation programme in a bid to be fit to compete at Le Mans.
Kristensen completed his comeback on Saturday, driving an Audi A4 DTM Race Taxi for almost an hour and within the programme of the DTM race at Brands Hatch.
Now he is he will race as he said: “It’s a fantastic feeling.
“It was a long break without motorsport. On occasion I really had to fight very hard with the effects of my accident.
“However, over the last few weeks my recovery really accelerated, and now I feel fit again.
“The doctors have checked me from head-to-toe and have given their approval.”
Kristensen will team up with Scotland’s Allan McNish and Italy’s Dindo Capello as originally planned, with reserve driver Mattias Ekstrom stepping down.
He will initially continue his rehabilitation programme over the next couple of days at Le Mans under the supervision of Audi team doctor Christian John.
Kristensen will then complete his first laps at the wheel of the Audi R10 TDI on Wednesday during the first qualifying session.
