BuyMyFace lads make charity donation

Two young UK entrepreneurs attempting to survive for a year solely by charging businesses to paint their company logos on their faces donated their Christmas Day profits of more than £500 to charity.

Ross Harper, 22, and Ed Moyse, 22, sell advertising by the day on their faces and foreheads and have made more than £11,000 in just three months.

Their quirky idea means there are absolutely no days off for the Cambridge graduates – including Christmas.

The pair decided that it would be more in the Christmas spirit to donate to the Alzheimer’s Society what they made on December 25.

The online festive auction was won by Devon-based retailer Games and Model Kits.

Economics graduate Mr Moyse, from Poole, Dorset in England, wore their logo on his face for the day while Mr Harper had Merry Christmas on his own face.

Mr Harper, a neuroscience graduate, from Greenwich, south London, said: “It was nice that Ed and I were still able to work on Christmas Day while also spending time with our families. We raised over £500 for the Alzheimer’s Society as well.”

They started the scheme because it would not require much investment after graduating from university with combined student debts of almost £50,000.

The entrepreneurs, who met on their first day at Selwyn College, Cambridge, started the business on October 1 and quickly made £3,500 in the first 10 days.

When they started out three months ago they said they were “armed only with massive student debt and a firm grasp of the principles of viral advertising”.

Mr Harper said he and Mr Moyse had considered expanding and offering the buymyface concept to other graduates.

“We’re only doing it for a year but we are looking to see whether we can get a couple of other people involved,” he said.

“Our friend who built the website is creating a buymyface game that we plan to put on the website for people to play and we may well make it downloadable in the future.”

The project has captured the attention of big names including Ernst & Young, Paddy Power, Piper’s Crisps and comedian Russell Howard.

Their website is www.buymyface.co.uk.
