Internet darling eBay, is to expand its Dublin-based operations, resulting in the creation of up to 1,000 new jobs.

The company, which currently employs about 30 staff in its Blanchardstown facility, is now to move more of its operations here after considering several European locations including Holland and Scotland.

The announcement is the latest of a round of jobs created by internet companies in Dublin in recent months.

Similar announcements came from Google and Overture, albeit to a lesser scale.

The news also comes as particularly good news to the Blanchardstown area of Dublin, which is still reeling from the shock of 650 redundancies announced by computer equipment manufacturer 3Com last week.
