The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association has said it is confident that Ireland will be exempted from the T-bone steak ban as it fulfills the rules set out by the European Commission.

Following a meeting with Commissioner David Byrne, ICMSA President Pat O'Rourke said not a single BSE case had been recorded in over 40,000 tests on cattle over thirty months old.

He said Ireland had also complied with the meat and bone meal ban and called on the Dept of Agriculture to seek derogation from the ban based on the country's credible record.
