The Minister for Justice has confirmed that a small advisory group is to be established to address the issue of management and leadership development within the Gardaí.

It follows receipt by the government of the third, fourth and fifth reports of the Morris Tribunal which is looking into certain allegations against members of the Gardaí in Donegal.

The Taoiseach's office says it can no longer ignore the trenchant views now expressed by the Morris Tribunal which suggests that there is substantial evidence that internal discipline has been severely undermined within the Gardaí as a whole, due to a variety of factors and events.

And the Minister has conferred with the Garda Commissioner in this regard and they have agreed that certain proposals will be put to government in the coming weeks and these will include the establishment of a small advisory group which will look at discipline and management of gardaí within the week.
