NTL closes Waterford call centre today

NTL's Waterford call centre is to close its doors for the final time today, with the loss of 135 jobs.

NTL's Waterford call centre is to close its doors for the final time today, with the loss of 135 jobs.

The decision was taken following the merger of the company and its competitor Chorus.

In all, hundreds of jobs have been lost at NTL in the 12 months since it was merged with Chorus to form a firm known as UPC Ireland.

The restructuring means the Waterford jobs are being relocated to Limerick, where the customer services division of Chorus is based.

In July, NTL said it would cut its staff by up to 350 people, and may take on another 140 staff.

The job losses come as a result of overlapping in several areas, including customer services, finance, human resources and management.

The closure of the Waterford base is a further blow to the city, where a number of jobs have been lost in the past year.
