Tanya Doyle found guilty of murdering husband
A 40 year old Dublin woman who stabbed her husband over 60 times has been convicted of his murder and jailed for life.
The jury has rejected the defence's claim that Tanya Doyle had a mental disorder that would diminish her responsibility when she killed Paul Byrne at their home in Pairc Gleann Trasna, Aylesbury in Tallaght, Dublin on September 4, 2009.
In a recording of the 999 call made by Paul Byrne, the jury could hear his screams of pain as he begged for his life and told the operator 'my wife is stabbing me, she's trying to kill me'.
Gardaí found Tanya Doyle at the scene covered in blood where she told them that she wasn't sorry, she wanted a fresh start and her husband wouldn't sign over the house.
After six hours of deliberations the jury has convicted her of murder.
They have rejected psychiatric evidence called by the defence that she was suffering from schizoaffective disorder which diminished her responsibility for the killing.
In victim impact evidence, Noel Byrne said she has never expressed even the smallest amount of remorse for his brother's 'violent and brutal' death.
Tanya Doyle showed no emotion at the verdict and said 'ok your honour' when Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan jailed her for life.
