McCarthy denies claims he broke Colin Healy’s leg

Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy has denied that he was responsible for breaking Colin Healy's leg during a training session last week.

Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy has denied that he was responsible for breaking Colin Healy's leg during a training session last week.

Reports in the British media had claimed that Healy broke his leg after being tackled by McCarthy during the session.

However, the former Ireland manager said there was no truth in the claims.

"He just planted his foot down and his leg broke again," McCarthy said. "Yes, I was on the pitch when it happened and yes, I was involved in the game, but there was absolutely no contact with me."

Healy picked up the break last week while recovering from an identical injury that has kept him out of action for the past nine months.
