Michael Keohane took a splendid victory in the first race of the ninth round British Formula 3 Scholarship Class double header at Donington Park.
On the very first lap, he burst through from fourth on the grid to move into the lead. Throughout the race he was chased hard by series leader, Robbie Kerr.
Keohane, in his Weathermaster/Clonakilty Black pudding/irishmobiles.com car drove a very tactical race and kept a charging Kerr at bay.
The Clonakilty driver also set the fastest lap towards the end of the 15-lap race.
Championship standings:
1. Robbie Kerr 228 points;
2. M. Gilmore 209 points;
3. M. Keohane 179 points.
In the Championship class French driver, Bruce Jouanny took his first win of the season.
Northern Ireland’s Derek Hayes was third.
Championship leader, Takuma Sato, endured problems that saw him drop down the leaderboard. The second race takes place this afternoon.
In the Formula Ford Zetec, Gary Turkington finished on the podium, he took third behind race winner, Richard Goransson and Patrick Long.
James Murphy, from Wexford, gained his best finish to date, coming from 27th to finish tenth.
