Manchester United handed West Ham a footballing lesson at Old Trafford today and increased the pressure on Glenn Roeder.

Ryan Giggs netted twice before the interval and Ruud van Nistelrooy struck twice afterwards as the rampant Red Devils split their visitors open at will.

Phil Neville split van Nistelrooy’s double with his first FA Cup goal for the club before substitute Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rounded off a handsome victory with his 12th goal of the campaign.

Jermain Defoe was booked for a late tackle on John O’Shea before the Hammers forced a couple of corners which they failed to make anything of.

With 10 minutes remaining, Roeder made a triple change and it almost brought some reward as Cole found himself in space with only Barthez to beat. It was the Frenchman who won the duel though with a low save.

Scott Minto was yellow-carded for a foul on Solskjaer but by then it did not matter, even United had become bored.
