Newcastle manager Graeme Souness today announced Craig Bellamy will not play for the club again while he is manager.
Blackburn, Birmingham and Portsmouth have all made enquiries to Newcastle about taking the controversial Wales striker on loan following his fall-out with Souness.
The Scot said: “He can’t play for me ever again. He can’t go on television and accuse me of telling lies. I’m not going to dwell on it, but I think in most walks of life, that would be the case.
“I’ve covered it in my programme notes tomorrow for the game and really people can read my side of the story and then maybe can make their judgement on it.”
Blackburn manager Mark Hughes, who worked with Bellamy when he was manager of Wales, would jump at the chance of borrowing the forward but it appears unlikely he could afford to buy the 25-year-old outright, at the moment.
“An enquiry was made to see the what the current situation was but no more than that,” said Hughes.
“Whether or not Newcastle would be receptive to a loan deal I possibly doubt. If a player of his talent becomes available most clubs are interested.”
Birmingham boss Steve Bruce said: “I think half the Premiership have enquired about taking Bellamy on loan – and we have enquired ourselves. Am I confident? No. I personally don’t think they will let him go out anywhere on loan.”
Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric confirmed his interest in taking the player on loan.
He told Sky Sports: “Craig Bellamy is an attractive striker to us. We are very much interested in doing a (loan) deal for him and yes I talked to Freddy (Shepherd, Newcastle chairman) yesterday. He didn’t say yes and he didn’t say no so we will have to see what happens.
“He would enhance what we have already with our strikers.”
