Chad accuses Sudan of bombing campaign
The Republic of Chad has accused Sudan of bombing four towns along its eastern border, close to the volatile Darfur region where thousands have been displaced by violence.
The Sudanese air force targeted four villages of Bahai, Tine, Kayarin and Bamina along Chad's eastern frontier in Friday's attack, Chadian officials said yesterday.
However, the Sudanese army spokesman, Brigadier General Osman Mohammed al-Aghbash said the report was false and that Sudanese forces "have no interest in intervening there".
Chadian Foreign Minister Ahmat Allam-mi said the alleged bombing marked a serious escalation "in its (Sudan) aggression against Chad".
In eastern Chad, there are 214,000 refugees who have fled violence in Darfur and 50,000 internally displaced Chadians, forced from their homes by violence within Chad.
