Reid facing 'big decisions'

Nottingham Forest midfielder Andy Reid, rated at £10m (€14.8m) by boss Joe Kinnear, has admitted he faces some big decisions over the summer.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Andy Reid, rated at £10m (€14.8m) by boss Joe Kinnear, has admitted he faces some big decisions over the summer.

The Republic of Ireland international had been a transfer target for Premiership side Tottenham in January when Forest turned down an initial £5m (€7.4m) offer.

But Kinnear is bracing himself for more offers during the close-season despite slapping a hefty price-tag on his prize asset.

“I’m going to have to think about my future,” said Reid.

“I’m going to have to sit down and talk to a lot of people about it. Of course it’s flattering to be linked with other big clubs although I though the £10m (€14.8m) price tag was a little unnecessary.

“But for now I’m just concentrating on the one game I’ve got left for Forest this season because it would be unprofessional to do otherwise and it would also be unfair to the fans, my fellow players and everyone else at the club.”

Bradford manager Bryan Robson is keeping his fingers crossed the club’s long-term future can be secured this week.

City, who have been in administration for the last two months, face a make-or-break scenario on Friday when the creditors will decide their fate at a Creditors’ Voluntary Agreement (CVA) meeting.

The club’s future hangs in the balance if chief executive Julian Rhodes’ survival package is snubbed but Robson – whose contract expires at the end of the season – is hoping for a positive outcome.

He said: “It is a massive week for the club and I hope everything goes well at the CVA meeting. This is a big club and it has got great potential.

“The fans have proved that if you give them good football they will come and support you.”

Don Hutchison is determined to have another crack at the big time with West Ham – and feels the Hammers would find it easier to play in the top flight.

Hutchison scored on his return to the starting line-up in the 4-0 win over Watford on Saturday and the 32-year-old feels that if Alan Pardew’s team could gain promotion via the play-offs, his own playing career could be prolonged.

“In my personal opinion it is easier in the Premier League than it is in the first,” he told the club’s official website, www.whufc.com.

“Against your Man Uniteds and Liverpools it’s all about quality and not running about the place like the other teams have got to do to you here.”

“I look at people like (Stuart) McCall at Sheffield United, who is playing at 39, Gary McAllister, who was a big influence on me when he was playing for Scotland, who was playing until he was 37 – so I’ve got another five years, especially if I get into the Premier League.”

Rotherham have revealed the final touches are being applied to Neil Freeman’s proposed takeover at Millmoor.

Freeman, a local businessman and a former director, is close to completing the deal with chairman Ken Booth, who has made no secret of his desire to sell up to any party committed to the Millers’ cause.

A statement on Rotherham’s official website, www.themillers.co.uk read: “Mr Freeman’s accountants and valuers have carried out their close examinations.

“There was not sufficient time for all the complicated legal work to be completed before the Millers’ home game against Burnley at Millmoor on Saturday. Negotiations are continuing to progress.”

Cambridge caretaker boss Claude Le Roy remains undecided over his future but he revealed his assistant Herve Renard wants to stay at the Abbey Stadium.

Le Roy is with the Us until the end of the season and has steered them away from the threat of relegation after losing just once in seven games.

“Even if I’m not staying next season I will always be concerned with Cambridge United,” said the former Cameroon boss. “I think Herve will always be here, he doesn’t want to leave.

“There is enough potential here at Cambridge for them to have a much better season next time.”

Notts County, relegated from Division Two, have been dealt another blow after defender David Pipe suffered a suspected broken leg against Brighton on Saturday.
