US-owned Allstate Northern Ireland today celebrated its 10th anniversary with the announcement that it is recruiting more staff.

The company – known as Northbrook Technology until it was rebranded in the summer – also joined its US colleagues in marking Thanksgiving with a break of coffee and donuts.

Allstate is the largest publicly owned property and casualty insurance company in the US and employs over 70,000 people there.

The Northern Ireland operation – there are offices in Belfast, Derry and Strabane – provides software development services and business process outsourcing in support of the parent company.

Despite the current economic downturn the company said it seemed unaffected by external pressures and was currently recruiting additional employees.

Bro McFerran, managing director Allstate NI said: “It’s the talent of our employees that is at the core of our company.

“It’s this talent and innovation that has allowed us to grow at such an astonishing rate and bring ongoing new opportunities to Northern Ireland. I’m looking forward to the next 10 years.”

Set up in 1998 it was originally planned for the company to recruit 250 staff, but the workforce has grown to 1,550 so far.

Leslie Morrison, chief executive of Invest NI said: “Since 1998, Allstate Northern Ireland has steadily grown its operations in Belfast, Derry and Strabane to become one of our most successful financial services investors.”

He added: “The presence of such as internationally respected firm has, and will continue to, add value to the local economy and provide a range of high quality career opportunities.

“I congratulate Allstate Northern Ireland on 10 years of success and hope that it continues to further develop its partnership with Invest NI.”
