Woman found guilty of Bandon murder

A 37-year-old woman has been found guilty of the murder of father of one Jonathan Duke in Bandon nearly two years ago.

Catherine O'Connor of Bridge House, Bandon had denied murdering the 27-year-old on November 13, 2011.

The court had heard that on the night in question gardaí were called to Bridge House after receiving a 999 call from a resident who said he had seen a body being thrown over a balcony.

A post-mortem examination found he had died from asphyxiation, with a secondary factor being a significant loss of blood.

It took the jury just two hours and 49 minutes to reach the unanimous verdict in the case this lunchtime.

Mr Justice Paul Carney has put back her sentencing for 15 minutes to allow agreement to be reached on a victim impact statement.
