Mike Jennings, SIPTU Regional Secretary for the Midlands and South East has said that Lapple Ireland's announcement it wants to shed 35 jobs is depressing news for Carlow.

He also noted that Carlow has 1,417 people on the live register.

"Lapple Ireland is the latest in an ever increasing list of companies to announce job losses proving that the Government has no plan, no strategy and no idea of how to save Irish jobs" he said.

Jennings said although the Government describes itself as being "pro-business" it has a dismal record and mentioned the issue of spiralling insurance costs as an example of this.
