Jamie Spencer has been booked to ride Soldier’s Tale in the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot at York on Saturday week.

Eddie Ahern has ridden the colt on two of his three career starts but he will miss the last two days of the meeting through suspension, leaving Spencer to team up with Jeremy Noseda’s four-year-old.

He told the Racing Post: “It is bad luck on Eddie and also on Shane Kelly, who has done some marvellous work on the horse at home.

“But Jamie stood in successfully when Soldier’s Tale won at the York May meeting, and it would have been difficult not to have given him first call after that.”

Soldier’s Tale is the 5-1 favourite with Coral for the Wokingham.
