Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has warned his side’s Barclaycard Premiership rivals that Jose Reyes is starting to build a formidable strike partnership with Thierry Henry.
Wenger has been using the run-in to the end of this season not only to chase an unbeaten league campaign, but also to give experience to 20-year-old Reyes alongside Henry.
The promising Spanish international, signed in January for what may eventually be a club record fee, has inevitably taken time to find his feet in English football.
However, he had quickly shown his immense potential with a stunning goal against Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round and he was again on target in the midweek draw at Portsmouth.
That result left Arsenal two games away from going through the 38-match Premiership season unbeaten and, with relegated Leicester the visitors to Highbury on the final day, the biggest remaining test is at Fulham on Sunday.
Wenger must decide whether to retain Reyes alongside Henry at Loftus Road, with Dennis Bergkamp, who was used on the right wing against Birmingham last weekend and was rested at Fratton Park, hoping to return to the side.
However, the Arsenal boss insisted: “Thierry’s partnership with Jose is developing very well.”
