Dundalk Stadium today presented its proposals for Ireland’s first all-weather racetrack.

The stadium’s management believes that due to its strategic location, with a catchment of three million people within a 90-minute drive,Dundalk is the ideal location for the all-weather racetrack.

Chairman of Dundalk Stadium Leo McCauley said: “We believe that the development of an all-weather racetrack in Ireland will attract a new and wider audience to horse racing and is an ideal surface for Ireland’s inclement climate.

“Dundalk Stadium has already invested €11.5m in the first phase of the redevelopment of the racecourse and now has an impressive, modern, glass-fronted stadium, perfect for evening racing.

“Greyhound racing resumed in November 2003 and is already attracting new and younger racegoers.”

Dundalk Stadium envisages that, upon approval from Horse Racing Ireland, a new all-weather racetrack would be operational within 12 months.
