Robbie Brady called up as thigh scan rules out Doyle
Manchester United winger Robbie Brady has been drafted into the Republic of Ireland squad after Kevin Doyle was forced to withdraw through injury.
The 20-year-old midfielder, who made his senior international debut in the 4-1 friendly victory over Oman last month, will join up with the squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Germany and the Faroe Islands on Monday.
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni turned to the youngster after a scan on the thigh injury Doyle suffered in training with Wolves yesterday revealed the full extent of the damage.
In a statement, the FAI said: "The Football Association of Ireland today announced that the results of Kevin Doyle’s scan showed clear signs of a muscle injury that will rule the player out of international duty for the forthcoming double-header.
“Robbie Brady, who was on standby will be called up in his place.”
Brady will be joined in the squad by Sunderland midfielder David Meyler, who received a late call-up yesterday.
