Attempts by opposition parties requesting extra time to discuss matters of current importance have been defeated in the Dail.

Requests to discuss the State of Public Finances and possible war on IRAQ were fended off in separate votes by Fianna Fail and the PDs.

The Dail has now resumed its debate on the proposed Nice Treaty referendum.
