Public asked to avoid St Vincent's Hospital

Members of the public are being asked to avoid visiting St Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin unless absolutely necessary, following an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug there.

Ten new in-patients were affected overnight by the virus.

Visitors are being asked to avoid visiting the hospital if possible.

A hospital spokesperson stated: “We appreciate that this is an important time for people to visit relatives and friends but these restrictions are essential for the health and safety of patients, visitors and staff. We are appealing to the public to avoid visiting the hospital if possible, to limit numbers to one person if visits are absolutely essential and not to bring children into the hospital.

“People should refrain from moving from one section of the hospital to another and clean their hands as often as possible while in the hospital.

“Members of the public who have symptoms such as ‘upset tummy’ should not attend the hospital but contact their GP in the first instance if they have serious concerns.”
