British embassy staff unhurt after demo in Libya
Demonstrators in Libya have failed to break into the British embassy in Tripoli.
An official at the embassy said no-one had been hurt and there was no breach of security.
Police arrested at least 30 protesters. Libyan television said tear gas grenades and batons were used to control the crowd, who were protesting against the Lockerbie verdict.
Judges convicted a Libyan man, Abdelbaset Al Megrahi, of the bombing over Scotland which killed 270 people.
Libyan TV showed a caption with the demo which read: "Demonstrations of anger throughout the towns and villages, demanding the release of the hostage kidnapped Libyan citizen Abdelbaset Al Megrahi."
The television later showed the clashes between demonstrators and anti-riot police with the screen caption: "Armed people units forced to intervene to protect the premises of international organisations and foreign embassies from the anger of the masses."
An ambulance was shown leaving the area of the clashes, while demonstrators carried mock coffins with the words, "Victims of the US raid" written on them.
Colonel Gaddafi said the convicted Libyan agent was innocent and insisted Libya was innocent.
