Recorded crimes down by just over 2%
The number of crimes recorded by the Gardaí has fallen by just over 2% in the past 12 months, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office.
The CSO says 2,300 fewer crimes were recorded in the year to the end of March this year, compared to the previous 12-month period.
The numbers of murders and manslaughters was down by five, while robberies of cash and goods in transit were down by nine.
The number of thefts, burglaries and other robberies was also down, while sexual offences decreased by almost 17%.
Elsewhere, the number of assaults was up by almost 250, while arson attacks were up by almost a fifth.
