A supermarket manager was kidnapped and held overnight by a criminal gang who today stole a large quantity of cash.

The man, who works at Superquinn in The Carroll Village Shopping Centre, Dundalk, Co Louth, was abducted by a number of men as he travelled home after locking up the store last night.

He was taken to an undisclosed outdoor location in a car where he was held overnight.

The manager was brought back to the store this morning where he, and two other female members of staff who had arrived for work, were held.

The culprits made off with a substantial amount of cash.

A black Almera van – registration number 99 D 7362 – used in the getaway was recovered north of the border this morning.

The three workers, who were not harmed during the attack, alerted gardaí at around 10.15am.

“No arrests have been made to date and the investigation is ongoing,” said a Garda spokesman.

Gardaí in Dundalk are appealing for anyone who may have seen this vehicle prior to the robbery and kidnapping or who may have any information to offer to call 042 9388400, the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
