Labour TD Roisin Shortall has been formally suspended from the Dáil following her refusal to withdraw remarks she made in the chamber yesterday.

Ms Shortall made the comments after questions posed by her colleague, Joan Burton, were not answered by Finance Minister Brian Lenihan.

The questions related to Irish Life & Permanent's multi-billion euro deposits in Anglo Irish Bank last September.

Deputy Shortall's suspension was confirmed this morning after TDs voted by 75-65 in favour of her removal.
