Detectives in London were tonight searching for a baby abducted from his home by an 18-year-old girl.

Four-month-old Emanuel Lamport was taken from his mother’s flat on Friday afternoon by Monique Kemp, Scotland Yard said.

She was visiting the flat in Putney, south-west London, with a man known to the baby’s mother.

Kemp asked the mother if she could take Emanuel to nearby shops.

She did not return and the pair have not been seen since around 3.30pm yesterday.

Emanuel is light-skinned, Afro-Caribbean and was in a blue three-wheeled buggy.

He was wearing a denim Gap cap, white babygro with T-shirt and jeans and light blue Nike trainers.

Kemp is white with dark brown hair worn in a pony-tail. She was wearing a red vest top and dark blue jeans.

She is from Southend but is known in the Brixton/Streatham area of south London.

Police say they believe Kemp was in Stratford, east London, last night.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Spink said: “We are extremely anxious to trace this child. We are not sure what skills Monique has to look after such a young child. It’s vitally important the baby is reunited with his mother as soon as possible.”

Mr Spink revealed Kemp had called the mother twice, last night and this morning to say she had been delayed and was on her way back to hand over the child.

She has yet to turn up.

Emanuel’s mother, who has two older children, is now very distressed, Mr Spink said.

“I have just got off the telephone. She is terribly upset and has started to become negative, thinking she is not going to see her baby ever again.

“Monique’s mother says she does have good parenting skills and knows how to change nappies and feed a baby, although she does not have any children herself.

“I’m encouraged by that.

“My main concern is for the welfare of the child and also for the welfare of Monique.”
