A man in his 20s has died in a crash in Co Galway.

A man in his 20s has died in a crash in Co Galway.

The car he was travelling in hit a wall at Baile Liam in Spiddal, about five minutes before midnight.

Gardaí along with units of the Fire and Ambulance Services attended the scene. The occupant of the car was removed from the vehicle and taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway. He was later pronounced dead.

The coroner has been notified.

The road is currently closed for a forensic collision investigation.

Traffic approaching on the R336 from the Galway City direction is being diverted onto the Moycullen to Spiddal Road via Baile An tSagairt and City bound traffic approaching Spiddal from the Inverin direction is being detoured towards Moycullen from Spiddal Village.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí at Salthill 091-514720 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
