Gerry Hutch extradition
Gardaí are planning to use a private jet to repatriate Gerry Hutch to face a murder charge in relation to the Regency Hotel shooting in 2016.
His final appeal against extradition to Ireland was rejected by a Spanish Appeals Court, and he is now being held in a Madrid prison.
Extraditions are typically carried out on scheduled, commercial aircraft but gardaí believe this could be a security risk in Mr Hutch's case.
An extensive security operation will surround Mr Hutch's return to Ireland, including an armed escort to Special Criminal Court 1 at the Criminal Courts of Justice, which is sitting on Thursday morning.
Winter blackouts
The Government cannot be “absolutely certain” there will be no power outages this winter, Eamon Ryan has warned.
The Minister for the Environment, Climate Action and Communications said electricity supply is tight, but added that the Government will be able to manage it.
Supplier EirGrid on Wednesday warned it will be unable to generate enough electricity in the coming years to meet a rapid increase in demand.
Households across Europe are already facing much higher bills due to soaring gas prices. Ireland has also been hit by the lowest wind levels in decades, poor plant performance and limited interconnector support from Britain, EirGrid said.
Mica redress meeting
The Minister for Housing will meet Mica homeowners this evening for a crucial meeting on a redress scheme.
The homeowners are seeking 100 per cent redress for damage to their homes caused by the presence of the mineral mica in faulty building blocks.
The Mica Working Group has described it as “momentous day” for those affected by the scandal.
